Outside Sales Representative

Job Brief:

Much of time spent outside location generating and securing new sales of products. Outside Sales Representative ensures efficient and effective sales operations and relations with new and existing custom accounts. Sells products to business and industrial establishments or individuals at sales office, store, showroom, or customer’s place of business by performing the following duties.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following including:

  • Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from newspapers, business directories, industry ads, trade shows, Internet Web sites, and other sources.
  • Travels throughout assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders, or talks with customers on sales floor or by phone.
  • Displays or demonstrates product, using samples or catalog, and emphasizes salable features. Prepare, coordinate and communicate price quotations, terms of sales, delivery dates and service obligations to customers/contractors.
  • Prepares reports of business transactions and keeps expense accounts
  • Tracks stock levels.
  • Resolve customer complaints and problems.
  • Enters new customer data and other sales data for current customers into computer database.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with purchasing contacts.
  • Assist in the collection of accounts receivable.
  • Attend custom builder meetings as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by location management.

Required Skills 

  • Minimum education required: Bachelor’s degree in sales, marketing or related field.
  • Special skills required:  Working knowledge of building materials industry and products, ability to negotiate prices and contractual agreements.
  • Special knowledge required: Working knowledge of accounting principles and local building codes and compliance requirements.
  • Other: Computer literate
